This is how we celebrated!
Of course, we started the day by reading Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten. This was also a nice introduction to many of the activities we were doing that day as the book goes through many 100th day activities.
Then we made our hats!
Next we used a 100th day writing prompt during our workshop time. We discussed as a group what we would do if we had $100. I modeled an example of taking the class to the zoo. They then brainstormed with a partner what they wanted to write about and went to it!
"If I had 100 dollars I would buy a tiger!" HA!
At choice time, I made sure to provide some 100th day counting and art activities. The bees LOVED our indoor hopscotch counting by tens! For art, we made 100 colorful dots in 10 boxes of 10 using Q-tip painting!
We also transformed our literacy centers of the day into 100th day activities. One center used a timer to see how many times the students could write their names and then sight words (using the word wall) in 100 seconds. What Kinder doesn't love a timer challenge?
Another center had a writing prompt asking the children what they can do now that they are 100 days smarter. I loved this one:)
Our last center was based on our 100 reasons why we love school. We made a starter list at the beginning of the day and then the students added their four reasons at center time. Later, I added the reason # to the top corner. We need to work on spacing, but they came out great! "I love school because I play my break"- sigh. He loves his break time.
At math, the bees were super excited to help me make a 100 topping pizza. We had a different number of each topping this year and it worked well. This way, we were able to compare the toppings that had the most and least. However, next year, to practice counting by tens and make the activity more accessible to all students, I will make ten toppings with ten items in each.
The kiddos used this recording sheet to record the number of each item as we pasted them on the large pizza together. I was shocked to see all of them understanding and using the recording sheet correctly! (Great assessment!)
We hung it up on our wall!
Here are some math centers during our 100th day celebration
Matching numbers by 10 to their base ten block representations
Tracing our numbers to 100
Race! to 100 game; the kiddos each choose a different color crayon to record and then took turns rolling the dice and "moving" and coloring that many spaces. This was a great game for ALL the bees and was very engaging.
I found these 100th day activities at http://www.mrslimarsstars.com/2014/01/100-follower-freebie.html
At the end of the day (when my Para has lunch- hence the lack of pictures ) We had a very special "party" with a treat. We made a 100th day snack using this adorable template. I used cheese its, goldfish, marshmallows, pretzel sticks, froot loops, cheerios, yogurt bites, popcorn, raisins, and teddy grahams. Because I have 23 students, I separated the snacks into large gallon bags (4 bags (one for each table) with just enough (and a little extra for mistakes) materials for each student at each table). Then, I was able to pour the mixed snacks into a large tray and let the bees have at it! SO FUN! I got a whole lot of "you're the best teacher ever!"
Yum!
Found these templates from Mrs Jones Creation Station
Many of the writing and literacy centers in this post will be available in my freebies soon!
